A question is asked at a community meeting. For a moment, the room goes quiet. People nod. Someone says, “That is exactly the problem.”
Then the meeting ends, people go home, and the question goes with them, unwritten and unanswered, until it is asked again years later by someone who never heard it the first time.
What happens to good questions after they are asked?
At The Ubuntu Covenant, we have begun keeping ours. Not as finished answers, but as invitations to keep thinking, to test what we believe against what others have lived, and to carry what we learn forward.
Four Places to Begin
Our Publications & Resources page now gathers four of them in one place:
- Conversation Paper No. 01: What Helps a Community Flourish? — Five human conditions that may help communities not only make progress, but sustain it.
- Reflection Paper No. 01: The Heir Who Owned Everything but Held Nothing — A story about ownership, agency and the responsibility to steward what is ours.
- Reflection Paper No. 02: When Trust Begins to Leave — Why trust weakens, and what rebuilding it asks of all of us.
- Conversation Leaflet No. 01: What Happens When Everyone Waits for Someone Else? — A short guide for a 20 to 45 minute conversation about shared responsibility.
Each one is free to read, download and share.
A Question for You
Which of these questions is your community already living?
If one of them speaks to your experience, read it, share it with someone who would value it, or use the leaflet in a meeting of your own. Then tell us what you discovered. The best of what we learn will come from you.
